G20 ~ my opinion

In his editorial, Toronto Star publisher John Cruickshank called the Toronto G20 “a brutal spectacle” that “failed a city and its people.” Just so. And it failed a great many more people than that. If Harper and McGuinty wanted to demonstrate the very depths of their political ineptitude, they have accomplished it.

McGuinty, insisting once again that he knows what Ontarians want better than Ontarians do themselves, exceeds even his usual arrogant approach of treating us like we're all 6 year olds by suggesting that calling in all those overzealous robocops would somehow speak to the needs of all Ontarians and meet with our expectations. Well, Uncle Dalty, in a very negative and sad way, they did meet our expectations. Bringing in all those “forces” and signing “secret laws” to provide them with an opportunity to abuse their authority may finally be your political downfall.  At least, I can hope.

And Stephen Harper, like a petulant little boy wanting to show off his room, allowed a good city to become a battle ground in an inane attempt to shield his guests from individuals and groups with legitimate concerns ~ people who just want to be heard.

Yes, crazies showed up ~ nasty people without legitimate causes just looking for an excuse to subject anyone else to violence and harm. Of course they came! They were invited ~ invited by eager anticipation and the very lengths to which our misguided politicians went to intercept them. C’mon crazies!! I dare ya!!

There are important international issues that need to be recognized, discussed, and dealt with properly. These are now relegated to the back burner of people’s minds because of a stupidly mismanaged world event that showed off just how very uncivilized our society can actually be.  This was an opportunity to bring something positive to a world hungry for new approaches to ongoing problems. Thoroughly trampled now by the montrousity that is controversy, one can only hope the concerns of organizations such as Plan, Unicef, Free the Children and other caring agencies will again surface ~ SOONEST.

In the meantime, I do hope there’s an election soon... provincial, federal.. whadevah.
